Brigadier General Roy Mustang is a self proclaimed bastard, with a reputation for his womanising and perverted ways. He comes across as arrogant with a playfully manipulative streak, though under the surface lies a deep trauma that he suffered in the war, a side he shows to the few he's close to. Intelligent and a very skilled alchemist, Roy is a heartthrob and knows it.
[ Physical Appearance ]
Roy is a naturally good looking guy, and he knows it. He has short, somewhat tousled black hair, and dark features set against paler skin. His body is toned with light muscle, and stands at 5'7". His eyes appear black in most lights, but up close are more of a bluish-black colour. He has many light scars over his body from the various fights he has encountered in his time, one in particular running across his left eye. He has very limited vision in said eye, and has an eye-patch that he covers the somewhat gruesome scar with.
Outside of the school uniform, Roy's style of dress is smart, but casual, and tends to wear darker, earthy colours. If required, he will wear his military uniform, a navy blue colour with a white lining. His rank is shown in gold on the shoulders of the jacket, and he usually strips it down to the white shirt he wears underneath.
[ Personality ]
Roy comes across as an arrogant, smug and cocksure bastard, whose main reason for reaching the top of the military is to make all female personnel wear miniskirts. He's sarcastic, and torments Edward Elric in any way that he can, especially concerning his height. Despite that, he has a protective streak a mile wide for both of the brothers, and holds a deep concern for them. He's a heartthrob to women, and is well known for his womanising and perverted ways.
Underneath his cocky exterior, the signs of the trauma he suffered in the war are very evident, he often has nightmares of the time he spent there. His reason for reaching the top is to make a difference, and to atone for those he killed. He has a sharp intelligence, and is a very skilled alchemist and leader to his men, even if he does seem a little too laid back at times. His kinder moments are far and few between, though he will offer assistance to the few that he is close to. Overall he is a decent guy underneath, but prefers to portray his bastard image.
[ History ]
Roy's childhood was nothing to speak of, he was the product of an affair between a desperate woman on the streets and a high ranking official in the army, who of course wanted nothing to do with his illegitimate son. His mother was never maternal, leaving Roy to bring himself up for the most part. On leaving school, he went into the military, as many young men did at the time, and there he met his long time friend Maes Hughes. Having always had a natural skill for alchemy, Roy became a State Alchemist, and was enlisted into the what would become known as the 'Ishbal Massacre'. Scared out of his young mind, he shot and killed two innocent people, doctors who were helping both sides of the war. Devastated by his actions, he turned his own gun on himself, and was close to committing suicide when he was interrupted by a man named Marcoh.
Given a new lease on life by Marcoh's words, when he returned home from the war, Roy focused on rising through the ranks of the military, so that he could get into a position where he would not have to follow such orders ever again, and to make a difference in the military. He confided in Hughes about this, and he agreed to help him in any way he could to push him to the top. After meeting the Elric brothers and assisting them in their search for the Philosopher's Stone, Roy becomes tangled up in their mission, and eventually faces off against one of their enemies, and Fuhrer of the State Military. He came off very badly injured in the resulting fight, and was how he came close to losing his eye. He has to wear an eye-patch, and only has very little sight remaining in his left eye. After this, he was promoted to Brigadier General . On hearing that Edward Elric had gone from their world, however, he lowered his rank, and stayed away from Central to guard an outpost up North. He kept in touch with Alphonse Elric during this time, the younger Elric would often visit him with any clues he had on his brother's appearance. He returned to Central during the events that bought Edward back to Amestris, helping to fight against the enemies who had descended through the Gate, slipping back into his higher rank easily. When the brothers left again, he took his position of Brigadier General back.
After the events that bring back Edward and Alphonse Elric to Amestris for a second time, Roy is sent to Dusk Academy undercover, actually on a mission to study the creatures surrounding the area, and the various techniques used by the students there.

Roy is well known as the Flame Alchemist, a title given to him by the military for his style of alchemy. He can control and manipulate the water molecules present in the air, splitting them into the separate elements of hydrogen and oxygen. Whilst wearing his standard military issue white gloves, made of a special 'ignition cloth', with his transmutation circle emblazoned on the back of them, he can simply snap his fingers to create a spark, in turn igniting the split hydrogen molecules. He has full control over the flames that he creates, to the extent of being able to create precise shapes, such as the form of a dragon, made entirely out of fire. Roy very rarely uses any other form of alchemy, but unless he is wearing his gloves, has to manually draw out the transmutation circle.
Roy's alchemy suffers two great weaknesses, the first being water. If his gloves get wet, then he has no way of creating that spark to use the full extent of his alchemy, though he can use other sources, such as a lighter or matches. Despite popular belief, he can use his flame alchemy in the rain, though it is much harder for him to manipulate, he has far less control and accuracy, and he has the natural disadvantage of the water putting out any fires. His second weakness occurs if the air surrounding him is disturbed, he loses a great deal of control over any ignited hydrogen particles, and can become injured himself if he chooses to use his alchemy in such a situation. This happens during poor weather, and if somebody is physically disrupting the air particles surrounding him.
Since receiving the injury to his left eye, Roy can supposedly see those who have suffered at his hands within it whenever he uses his alchemy.
